The University of Manchester is committed to reducing its environmental impact and actively encourages and promotes sustainable travel.
A Sustainable Travel Plan is in place which provides a package of initiatives and incentives to encourage the use of public transport, cycling, walking, car sharing and video conferencing by staff, students and visitors.
The pages in this section provide further detail for each specific area.
Sustainable travel not only helps the environment in terms of reduced carbon emissions, it also improves local air quality, reduces traffic congestion and improves local communities. Not only that but there are potentially significant personal benefits in terms of health and money saving.
To find out the difference travelling sustainably can make to your carbon emissions visit CO2 Calculator (Remember, cycling and walking are zero carbon!)
The University is taking part in a great new commuter scheme organised by Transport for Greater Manchester’s (TfGM) Travel Choices programme. If you would like to see which sustainable travel options are available to you (and possibly benefit from free taster tickets and incentives), please complete this short online form and a PTP will created and send to you: www.tfgm.com/newstarters (Please note this initiative is available to all University staff, whether a new starter or not)
