Energy Saving Schemes

The Mechanical and Energy team successfully applied for the Salix Revolving Green Fund which has resulted in the installation of over 350 small schemes to assist in the reduction of energy by the installation of more efficient technologies.

Some of the energy efficient technology installations for 2015/16 include the following:

  • External LED Lighting at residences.

  • Retrofit LED gear trays for external lighting around academic buildings.

  • Lighting Controls.

  • Energy efficient heaters in student accommodation.

  • Insulation.

  • Heating controls.

Total estimated annual savings for all the installations during 2015/16 equate to 2,553,723 kWh and 838 tCO.

More recently the University successfully made a further application for the Revolving Green Fund 4 made available by The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and Salix made available in 2014 and due for completion by December 2016, resulting in over £710k investment in energy reducing schemes which include:

  • Lecture Theatre Controls.

  • LED Lighting in the following academic buildings, Schuster, AV Hill, PSI, Zochonis, Jean McFarlane, Williamson.

  • LED lighting in student accommodation, Richmond Park and Whitworth Park.

  • LED lighting in Whitworth Art Gallery.

Total estimated annual savings for all these installations equate to 923,098 kWh and 496 tCO.
