Landscape Services Unit

The Landscape Services Unit consists of team of qualified horticultural, gardens and arborist staff who maintain the grounds of the University estate. The external sites such Jodrell Bank and Dalton Cumbria Facility are maintained by external contractors.

The remit of the Landscape team includes:

  • Planning, installation and maintenance of shrubbed areasLawn care and mowing with up to 30 cuts per annum
  • Planning, supplying, installation and maintenance of Spring and Summer bedding displays.
  • Weed control in compliance with the Food and Environmental Protection Act 1990 and its relevant regulations
  • Planning, supplying and installing floral decoration material for University Degree ceremonies and other functions
  • Tree maintenance, Tree Preservation Orders, Trees within Conservation Areas
  • Emergency tree works and repairing damage caused by accidents or vandalism
  • Supplying, installing and maintaining street furniture (seats, signs, litter bins, bollards, fences etc)
  • Snow clearance and gritting
  • Professional Advice regarding University Landscape matters

Much of the maintenance works are pre-planned maintenance functions but periodically these schedules need adjusting to accommodate periods within the University calendar e.g. revision and examination periods, and other eventualities such as adverse weather conditions.
