Oxford Road Closure for Precinct Demolition and Construction Work
Preparations are underway for the closure of Oxford Road from Monday 16 May 2016 for three weeks.
The closure will allow the University to demolish the end of the Precinct (The Phoenix) and is a key milestone in the ongoing Alliance Manchester Business School redevelopment.
As part of these preparations, and following Blackwell's vacation of the Precinct, the undercroft on Oxford Road and Booth Street West will be hoarded off from Wednesday, 20 April and will remain closed until the heavy demolition activity begins.
Following on immediately from the three-week road closure, the inside lane (going towards Manchester city centre) will be closed for 14 months, to allow the end of the Precinct to be reconstructed in steel and glass. This will form an impressive new frontage onto Oxford Road for the Alliance Manchester Business School, as well as shopfronts to an exciting range of new retail units.
Further details will be provided about the extent of the road closure and the impact on pedestrian and cycle users, as well as public transport. As with previous road closures, access will still be available for vehicles on University business or with other local businesses.
