Lost Property found on campus

The Student Services Centre is now working in conjunction with House Services and Security managing and maintaining lost property

This is to ensure property found on University premises is dealt with consistently and in accordance with both internal service standards and the Office of Fair Trading guidance.

All items are to be kept in the buildings they are found in for one week and then passed to centralised lost property at the Student Services Centre. For Main Campus, this is the Student Services Centre in the Eddie Newcomb building beside the Main Library. For North Campus, Student Services is based at the Barnes Wallis Student Hub.

If it is possible to identify the owner, the University will contact the owner via email and if possible by phone. Anyone who has lost something should email:

Lost student cards are to be sent to the Student Services Centre where we will contact the student. Staff cards are to be returned to Human Resources.

All unclaimed items, which are not personal items of value that can then be returned to an originator e.g. the DVLA, will be kept for one month. After this time any other items not collected will be donated to charity. For security reasons, all bank cards handed in will be securely destroyed immediately.

Where possible any items being disposed of will be sent for recycling in support of our sustainability commitments or donating to the University’s nominated charity. Where items may contain sensitive data (laptops, phones etc.) they will be disposed of in accordance with the University Policy on the disposal of sensitive data. Due to health and safety, items that are unhygienic to store (such as bottles containing liquid or plastic food storage) will be disposed of immediately.

Any cash found and not claimed will be donated to the Student Hardship Fund, administered by the Student Services Centre and used to support students in financial hardship.
