Asbestos Management

The Asbestos Management Team provides a comprehensive service in asbestos management throughout the University’s estate in conjunction with the Health & Safety Office. The team maintains the University’s asbestos register, and carries out an on-going programme of asbestos surveys, remediation, removal and disposal. We provide information and guidance, and work closely with and guide Departments with their internal safety arrangements.

  • To manage and control all known asbestos containing materials across campus in order for the University to comply with it’s ‘Duty to Manage’ (Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012);
  • To ensure the successful dissemination of information across the University in accordance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012;
  • To continue to re inspect surveys and update the asbestos register for the all buildings;
  • To carry out quality assessment audits on all contractors and consultants carrying out asbestos remedial works across the University;
  • To maintain an ongoing response service to asbestos queries and asbestos emergencies;
  • Implement and manage the population and roll-out of the asbestos register;
  • To carry out ongoing asbestos refresher training to all Estates personnel.
