Building Surveying

The role of the Building Surveying Team includes:

  • The overseeing of architectural/building standards for the University Estate including space standards, component and materials standardisation;
  • To establish, monitor and assess standards of building fabric through building condition surveys;
  • The development, implementation and management of a 10 year maintenance plan;
  • The development of conservation plans for listed buildings and all University buildings categorised as having special architectural and/or historical interest;
  • Building pathology advice to Estates colleagues as necessary, directing maintenance works as required;
  • Professional advice to Estates and University colleagues to ensure that all development work carried out at the University is in accordance with legal and statutory requirements and is in the best interest of the University;
  • Contributing to the design review process with both internal and external design teams for development works;
  • Advising occupiers and contractors on proposals for building works.
