Fire Safety

The team are responsible for the provision of services for the management of all aspects of fire protection and safety relating to University buildings.

The team provides the following services:

  • Provision of Fire Engineering advice in relation to new build and refurbishment projects;
  • Procurement and management of annual Fire Risk Assessment updates for compliance with Regulatory Reform Order;
  • Fire Incident Investigation;
  • Cooperate between other employers where two or more share the premises;
  • The reporting of fire incidents in accordance with current practice;
  • Liaison with local enforcing fire authorities;
  • Monitoring and mitigation of unwanted fire incidents;
  • Liaise and cooperate with managers and those with fire safety responsibilities;
  • Develop fire safety strategies to comply with legislation requirement;
  • Provide fire safety support to meet the University demands;
  • Minimise the potential for flame smoke and heat to disrupt teaching and routine University business, destroy unique research materials, damage to building and equipment, and harm the environment;
  • With regards to fire safety ensure requirements for mobility impaired are provided;
  • Ensure maintenance of buildings is designed, specified and carried out in accordance with all relevant fire safety legislation;
  • Safeguard to the best of their ability all persons on University premises from death or injury un the event of fire.
